Existential literature, poetry and screenplay

Novelist, Screenwriter, Film Director

Diane Degry, 34, is a French novelist, screenwriter, and aspiring film director of Ivorian origins. Her creative writing is deeply rooted in the exploration of existential themes expressed across poetry, novels, and cinema. Focused on drama, thriller, mystery, and biopic genres, she explores profound themes such as inner struggles, childhood trauma, life purpose, cultural integration, and personal or societal dilemmas from a female perspective. She gained her existential understanding by studying psychoanalysis and philosophy, which led her to pursue a second academic path while incorporating reflective elements into her literature and cinema.

Existential Approach to Contemporary Literature

In her novel “Voyage au Coeur d’Ellie Bright“, we witness a young neurodivergent woman’s introspective quest before finding her life’s purpose by combining love and work (sic. Sigmund Freud). In “La beauté des roses“, the main character, both the protagonist and antagonist, unveils the genesis of her relationship’s destructive behaviors by analyzing the development of her sentimental life since the innocence of her childhood.

 Existential Approach to Cinema

Her short film “Wiedergeburt (Rebirth)” metaphorically portrays the inner duality of a young New Yorker in both physical and metaphysical atmospheres. “Memoria” embodies troubled reminiscences rooted in childhood traumas. Her in-development films should follow similar patterns: an existential individual or collective dilemma, a female-centered original narrative, a focus on profound and esthetic cinematography, an enchanting score, and both pragmatic and intuitive direction.

Comments on her short film “Memoria” in competition for the 14th edition of the Nikon Festival: “Everything worked in synthesis to show a piercing study of psychoanalysis and visual memory. Great job from everyone involved”, “Without a doubt, it’s a great work. The close ups makes the film intimate and seductive as memory is itself.”, “Un film maîtrisé avec une démarche forte, le second d’une réalisatrice de grand talent.”, “Une belle introspection ponctuée d’images fortes ! Félicitations pour cette réalisation”.
